  I normally file our taxes, but this year I decided to go with H&R Block of Harker Heights because of all the changes we had this year we had in a job, the birth of our child, and getting school money from the VA. Our federal was prepared as well as state. NJ was not except returns at the time so we were told we would be contacted at a later time. We paid over 200 dollars and were told we would be called back in to sign the paperwork for the state when it was ready. We had a courtesy call asking if we had received our federal refund, which we had. We asked about the state and were told we would be called back, which we never heard back from the lady. After weeks went by with no response, I called today to ask about the status of the state refund and spoke to another lady who told me she could not find it at all. She was redoing the state refund while I was on the phone and told us there would be another fee of $71 when we had not been told this the first time. We were assuming, like the tax preparer had made it seem that the first fee was all of it together. I do not know about everyone else, but paying around $300 for people to be unprofessional and not caring about their customer service enough to check on things that they said they would is ridiculous. I know there is always a fee to prepare state, but when online you can do your federal for free I would not waste your time. I would have much rather just paid the $71 and kept the rest in our pocket then deal with people stringing us along.
